4 Tips for Staying on Track this Holiday Season

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years…can be a total blur of family, fun, and lots and lots of FOOD. Here are our top tips for staying on track this holiday season:

#1 – Don’t skip meals! Skipping a meal with the goal of “saving calories” prior to a holiday event can backfire and lead to overeating due to ravenous feelings of hunger. Have a balanced snack prior to a gathering help to curb your appetite and prevent overeating.

#2 – Contribute a healthy dish! Ensure at least one nutritious fiber-filled choice like a veggie tray or big colorful chopped salad is available.

#3 – Think color! Have a plan to fill ½ your plate with a wide variety of colorful fruits and veggies, ¼ of the plate with a protein, and ¼ of your plate with a starch.

#4 – Choose your drinks wisely! Alcoholic beverages contribute empty calories and can cause you to make poor judgments with food. If you do choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation, and alternate each drink with a glass of water.
