Mauricio began his CrossFit journey during the Summer of 2009. Having a diverse athletic background through HS Football, Track, Swimming, Triathlon, and B-boying, CrossFit was a natural extension, yet still uniquely challenging in its varied and combined demands. His passion for athletics and analytic mind made it all an exciting discovery, and he soaked in everything he could about his new-found obsession.

After earning his Level 1 Cert in April 2010, he took a ‘do-it-yourself’ approach and began a personal training business out of his garage with lots of homemade equipment. Shortly thereafter he started a group class in a local park, and then partnered with a fellow trainer to grow the community even further. After doing it outdoors for some time, Mauricio was ready to take his coaching and community to the next level, and took the leap to a CrossFit ‘box’ by founding CrossFit Cypher.

Mauricio constantly drives and encourages clients to experience and express themselves through movement as they simultaneously embark on a very personal and communal journey through health and fitness. Having coached over 3000 hours of CrossFit classes, and having competed at a high level in the Sport of Fitness, he has had time to practice and sharpen his skills. The path to results and success in our community for clients of all levels has never been more clear. CrossFit is changing lives on a global scale, and Mauricio hopes to play an important role in helping foment this revolution of movement and lifestyle. He also hopes to make a unique contribution in helping bring more art and expression into the CrossFit community through his experiences in B-boying (more popularly known as breakdancing).

It would be negligent not to mention Mauricio’s beloved companion – Nova. Nova is a 10 year old puppy, who is a staple at CrossFit Cypher. She supervises, cheers on, reassures, and loves everyone in the CrossFit Cypher Family. Most of all she is Mauricio’s partner in crime and is always by his side.

LESLIE MACEDO—Cypher Kids Head Coach and Co-Owner

  • CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
  • CrossFit Kids Certified
  • B.S., Health & Sport Studies, Miami University
  • 2016 USAW American Open: 69kg lifter – Sn 71 kg | C&J 96 kg

Leslie has always been passionate about athletics, movement, and health. She traveled to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for school on a softball scholarship, where she majored in Exercise Science and minored in Coaching. During her collegiate career, Leslie thrived in the weight room and thoroughly enjoyed working hard on to improve her strength, which resulted in Strength & Conditioning All-American honors from The National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2007. With power behind her swing, Leslie became the first Miamian to top more than 100 career RBIs and finished her career as one of Miami’s most prolific offensive players.

Leslie began CrossFitting during the Fall of 2010. The family atmosphere and camaraderie created in class reminded her of working out with her teammates in college. Her passion for strength, health and wellness had been reignited. She became a CrossFit Level 1 Certified Trainer in July 2013. While she enjoys the competition component of CrossFit, what Leslie enjoys most about CrossFit is the community. She truly believes that anyone who walks in the doors of CrossFit Cypher – whether they are elite athletes, former athletes, weekend warriors, or have never stepped inside of a gym – can accomplish feats of physical strength they once thought impossible. She is always touched by the raw celebrations not only from the individual who may have completed his/her first pull-up, but touched by the reaction of the rest of the Cypher class who witnessed this great feat. This connection and commitment is what Leslie believes makes CrossFit – and CrossFit Cypher – so special.

BECKY HINES—Cypher Coach

  • CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
  • CrossFit Kids Certified
  • CrossFit Strongman Certified
  • Gym Jones Level 1 Certified
  • B.S. Environmental Science, University of Utah

Becky’s whole life has really been speedskating. She started at age 1 and began racing at 3. Becky was on the National Sprint Team, made 4 World cup teams, 1 World Championship, and was the alternate for the 2006 Torino Games in the 500m. Becky was also nationally ranked in Track Cycling (velodrome) in the sprint events in 2006-2008.

Upon retirement from skating in 2010, she turned to a boxing studio which incorporated a lot of CrossFit activities, and eventually started with Ute CrossFit in 2012. Shortly thereafter, Becky became a Certified CrossFit Trainer and actively pursued that as her profession while still working at a civil engineering firm. She worked with personal training clients and taught CrossFit classes before and after work for some time until realizing that a regular desk job was not for her, and made the switch to full-time coaching. Since living in the Bay Area, she started her own training business (B.Hines In Motion) working with personal training clients, teaching bootcamps, and teaching strength and conditioning classes. Becky is grateful for the education and growth she has experienced through her CrossFit journey, and is excited to be a part of CrossFit Cypher.

BIANCA TORNERO—CrossFit Kids Coach and Cypher Coach

  • CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
  • CrossFit Kids Certified
  • B.S. Environmental Studies and Education

Bianca hails originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, before moving to Berkeley, CA at the age of 15. Since she was a young girl, Bianca has been involved in numerous athletics, including Gymnastics, Swimming, Basketball, and Martial arts. After an ACL injury prematurely ended her rugby career, Bianca began her foray into CrossFit at the urging of a friend in college, which transformed her perspective of exercising not just for a better body but also for performance, while also exposing her to Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting.

While she originally started with CrossFit and Powerlifting, Bianca eventually settled on Weightlifting, but this did not stop her from formally competing in all three. After finishing college she relocated in the Bay Area in search of a better training environment, since she is determined to compete at a national level in Weightlifting.

She hopes to bring her passion and enthusiasm for Fitness and Weightlifting into the Cypher community and inspire others to pursue a better, healthier lifestyle. In her free time she enjoys hikes and LOVES exploring. She’s also very passionate about food and believes it’s a very powerful way to connect with people and learn about people’s cultures, as well as a key factor to a healthy lifestyle. She really values her family and friends and believes that developing meaningful relationships with people are a key factor to success and happiness. She’s very excited to be part of the Cypher community and looks forward to help people reach their goals, whatever those may be!
